Our pouches of coffee are made from a flat film that is formed into a bag in our machine, it is filled with coffee and then the top of the bag is sealed. This film is called a laminate, a three layered film, glued together that has 1 part for food contact, 1 part to protect the coffee from going stale and 1 part to print the design on. In the past, each of these layers has been a different type of plastic or material and therefore can’t be recycled and goes to landfill.
We are pleased to announced that we have successfully trialled a laminate still made of 3 layers but all from the same type of plastic that can now be recycled. It will carry the following message :
